life's precious lessons

my kids had made me worked hard for the past few days. it all started on saturday after i've cleaned the house:

one of the girls peed at the usual spot which was never allowed in the first place. and because that spot is not leveled, the pee flowed in between the tiles down stream until the whole dinning area was wet. this happened twice.

then, my demon puked on the sofa. fur ball. i had to quickly remove the covers and dump them into the washing machine. while taking off the sofa covers, he jumped onto the bed and puked again. damm it! the bedsheets, blankets and matress protector were all stained and i had to send them for washing after the sofa covers are done.

Sunday
woke up to find the left corner entrance to the dogs' toilet covered with a puddle of pee. its either daddy or bryce who did it. went to check the dinning area. surprisingly dry. good! so i went back to clear the toilet and prepared breakfast for the babies. took them for their morning walk and headed to hillview and fed the cats with daddy and mummy. followed by sending them to the groomer.

finally i had some time for myself. so i instinctively drove to bagus at imm and had my favourite yong tau hu laksa with bandung. afterwhich i religiously went to giant and did some grocery shopping. headed home after that.

the moment i opened the door, i smelt pee. the exact spot at the dinning area was wet again. definitely meimei this time! damm it! i had to clean up the whole dining area again. just as i thought i could catch some rest after the cleaning, the phone rang: "your babies are ready to be picked up" argh! im so tired! but no choice, i headed back to fetch daddy and mummy.

after all that jazz, i finally got the chance to snooze. dozed off for about 30mins and watched 881 and sepet for the 3rd time.

soon it was time for dinner. prepared the usual meal for the babies. and only after they were done, came my turn. just as i was enjoying my dinner, my demon puked on the sofa again! what the hell! i just washed the cover yesterday! and he has to puke there again? not only that, he also jumped onto the bed and puked again! ARGGGGGGGHHHHHH!!! i don’t believe it! i had to remove the sofa covers and bedsheets to wash them again. there goes my dinner. absolutely no mood to eat anymore. took daddy and mummy out for some air and drove them to feed the cats. headed home to clear the laundry and slept, still feeling frustrated.

Monday
the same area outside the dogs' toilet is covered with pee. this time round its dried so i reckoned its bryce. (he didn’t get his walk as last night was raining quite heavily.) had to clear up the mess. no pee pee at the dining area so that saved me some time. quickly prepared breakfast for the babies and ate some left over buns myself. showered, cleaned the babies' face and took daddy and mummy for their morning walk. headed to feed the cats before going for work.

during lunch time, i bought some food to cook for dinner and breakfast for the next morning. i've also bought minced pork to give the babies a treat. at 6pm i quickly drove home to look at my babies. the moment i went home, pee at the dining area plus another pee spot at the leg of the dining table which was already waiting for me to clean. that corner has to be bryce! frustrated, i waxed that whole dinning area to prevent the pee from flowing all over. all these while that i was cleaning, i never hugged any one of the babies. neither did they dared come near me. even though i know mummy wanted to play fetch, daddy wanted a hug and my demon wanted very much to sit on my lap and a kiss from me.

after all that was done, i still made them the meat loaf and fed them. they looked please to be served with good food. and only after they are done, i prepared my own dinner and did some laundry. didn’t have time to sit still and enjoy my only entertainment on monday nights. after that i had to feed the cats at hillview with daddy and mummy again. went home to clear the laundry and slept.

sometime into my sleep, daddy barked so that i can carry him onto the bed. he probably went down to pee. too tired to even look at the clock, i just carried him up and went back to sleep. moments later, bryce barked to be carried... meimei stroked my hand to be carried. daddy barked again. this time i opened my eyes. 4am! carried him and went back to sleep.

Tuesday
this morning's mess has to be the worst! the toilet entrance is not only flooded with pee, it has paw prints (dapped with pee) all over. its really frustrating to see this first thing in the morning. and instead of drying the area the usual way of kitchen towel, i splashed water and scrubbed the entire area. the dogs were too scared to even move an inch. it took me 30 minutes to make sure its clean. afterwhich i fed the babies and made myself a sandwich. showered, clean the babies' face, took daddy and mummy for their walk. headed to hillview and feed the cats before coming for work.

i dont know what i'll get after work today and i'm not venting my frustrations here. upon reflection, i've taken one of life's most precious thing - kindness for granted.

i think it is very easy to react negatively to the above situations and by doing so, it also means that i'm self-centered and neglected what my babies need. i hate to admit it but that's exactly the way i've been brought up. it is a heinous crime if i ever make a mistake and the consequences were hash. kneeling on bottle caps, umpteen cane marks which split my flesh that kept me bleeding.

as a 29 year old, i’m still trying very hard to balance this untold part of me which never fail to transform me into a raging beast sometimes. afterall, where else can the babies run to, except a dead end and continue to grow up in fear like i did?

is she going to spin clockwise or otherwise?

i'm still very shocked by the analysis:
apparently i was so confident that i am a left brainer until i've been told otherwise by this picture.

i've tried to focus and 'change' the direction of the spinning ballerina but the change couldn't even last one oscillation!

however, most of the comments about this article seem to point out to the glaring fact that the analysis could wrong. anyway common sense (to me) would say that most people are right-handed and hence should be left brained. so if most people see her spinning clockwise, i would really question the analysis.

i think, therefore i am.

a song for you

A Song for You by The Carpenters track 1 A Song for You

I've been so many places in my life and time
I've sung a lot of songs I've made some bad rhyme
I've acted out my love in stages
With ten thousand people watching
But we're alone now and I'm singing this song for you

I know your image of me is what I hope to be
I've treated you unkindly but darlin' can't you see
There's no one more important to me
Darlin' can't you please see through me
Cause we're alone now and I'm singing this song for you

You taught me precious secrets of the truth witholding nothing
You came out in front and I was hiding
But now I'm so much better and if my words don't come together
Listen to the melody cause my love is in there hiding

I love you in a place where there's no space or time
I love you for in my life you are a friend of mine
And when my life is over
Remember when we were together
We were alone and I was singing this song for you

You taught me precious secrets of the truth witholding nothing
You came out in front and I was hiding
But now I'm so much better and if my words don't come together
Listen to the melody cause my love is in there hiding

I love you in a place where there's no space or time
I love you for in my life you are a friend of mine
And when my life is over
Remember when we were together
We were alone and I was singing this song for you
We were alone and I was singing this song for you

one of those mass circulated web stories which speaks to me.
not as if i take the bus nowadays, but definitely can relate to the dialogue between the guy and the girl.

powerful aftershocks hit sumatra

i felt the aftermath of the quake this morning as i was sitting by the dining table ready to spread my bread with apple and rasberry jam. it was 7:50am.

i thought i felt dizzy at first but when i saw the water level in the vase moved, i knew it wasn't a dizzy feeling. it's like as if i was floating in the middle of the sea, being washed away by the current.

i only thought of my children that moment. how am i going to evacuate all 6 them (if need be). i was selfish. my sympathy goes to the victims at sumatra.

boring saturday morning

what car would you be?

You would be part Ferrari Enzo. You are quick, slick and ever-so-cool. Your ostentatious showiness may put some people off, but your friends know you're the real deal.
You would be part Stretch Hummer. You are as big and bold as they come. You get what you want, when you want, and you can run over old ladies without even knowing it.

what kind of drink are you?

You are a Whiskey on the Rocks. You are tough and you know it. It takes a long time for people to get to know you but you wouldn't have it any other way. You don't care what people think, but sometimes that turns people off of you.

what city should you live in?

You should live in New York City. America's largest city will ensure that you will blend into the crowd. You are the brooding type--introspective, creative, and eccentric--and NYC's cutting-edge, individualistic culture and ambience will appeal to you.

hairspray and prata

watched hairspray last night after my 2nd working saturday in a row. (next sat is going to be another one) didnt enjoy it as much as i did for dreamgirls.

went to mr prata at evans rd after watching a good review about it on tv. reached there about 9:15pm and had to wait for about 25mins even thought there were empty tables and the shop wasnt crowded. (there was only one person doing the prata)

3 guys behind my table left angrily with one of their orders not served and without paying! and it was really not me to wait so patiently given this situation. perhaps i reckon that i would get the same answer (its coming) as the 3 guys did, i didnt bother myself with checking the status of the order.

and when the prata was finally served and out of curiosity, i flipped open to check out the contents as it was raved over the tv and I FLIPPED! i could only see strands of unmelted cheese and some white bits which i thought looked like crab stick. and it took me quite some time to recognize that as they were really in tiny bits! so i checked with the person who served the prata and asked him what happened to the seafood? he in turned asked the person who dished out the prata and he came over. without taking a closer look at the prata, he said:

"oh, the seafood already cut into small pieces. this is seafood prata!"

tat moment i would have overturned the whole plate of dough + unmelted cheese + crab stick bits on the table and leave. i wouldnt even call it a prata! but i didnt. i ate my frustrations and left. K!@B#*B!

my mother just couldn't stop telling me what my dad said after both of them watched 881 (they do not know that i specially bought the tickets for them):

他30年没去戏院看戏了。

i'm so happy that this is one movie they can relate to and i'm sure it brought back memories from the time they were dating.

alarm 30

ok i just chatted with kendrick about how i cannot foresee myself drawing my current pay for the rest of my life. he too, is thinking about the same thing! i think at our current life stage, consideration can no longer be restricted for ourselves but for our family as well.

to my dear students, if ever one day i'm no longer in the profession, please understand that it is not that i have ceased to pace with you, but i'll be pacing with you in another way, that's all.

2 weeks ago, my mum asked me if i want to eat rice dumplings this year. not that i can't buy those commercial ones in the market but what she meant was if i want to eat those made by her. strangely, i have never thought of buying those commercial ones and i've always had the luxury fo tasting home made ones since i was born. of course! would have been the truthful and most immediate reply but i said no. for a simple reason, i didn't want my gluttony be a reason for her to work so hard. my mum replied in hokkien:

我现在可以做, 我就做。
等我老了,不能做了,你要吃就没得吃了。

what she said made me feel so guilty :(

i woke up earlier than usual to make rice dumplings with my mum on sunday, which used to be a mass family activity when my grandmother was around. since her departure, my mother and i had been doing this on our own, which really starts from preparing the ingredients way before the actual day. the actual day begins at 6:30am with frying the ingredients, until the evening where i had to delivery the dumplings to my aunties. end of the day, my mother still very much cherish her kinship with her sisters.

to those who had the chance to eat the dumplings, its more than just tasting nice.

JO : hey dy!
JO : wanted to thank you
JO : but havent had the chance
君 : huh? thank me for?
JO : u know i was in this rough period
JO : very lost, n quite depressed
JO : then i talked to ben la
JO : n i recalled this thing u said!
JO : when we identified that i have an external locus of control
JO : i remb u once said "if u build ur confidence on wad others think of u, then the moment they change their mind ur confidence will collapse"
JO : cant remember when u said it though... very long ago

all i could say is i'm truly happy for her, albeit haven't been seeing her physically and be there for her when she's down. oh and her 2 uncollected ang baos.

emailed my aunt yesterday about a job offer i thought she might be interested in. she declined the offer in her reply and in turn told me a secret:

"I have just converted to a christian and I am going to remove the altar from my home, my two children too will fellow me to become christian, except my husband. I am feeling so great after believing in Lord Jesus..."

it did struck me that somehow my extended family have changed eversince my grandmother passed away when i was uni 2. i guess thats what happens when the pull factor ceased to exist. we saw less of each other and have less mass gathering like we used to have. or maybe its just me not staying with my parents =/

i replied my aunt that i respect her decision and may she find continued joy in her belief.

thank you and may god bless you she replied.

MYR and SGD

i went jb on sunday to have my hair cut. left the house at about 12 and reached city square at 2pm. the jam was really bad :(

had lunch at the food court which is managed by food junction. and gosh! one nasi padang + bandung costs about $4SGD

then, the hair cut (which really was the highlight of this trip) for $30MYR.

padini and seed are having their sale, but nothing caught my eye. even though they are marked down for 50%. some how i'm just not crazy over this season's collection.

a break down of how much it costs to spend about 1.5hrs across the causeway (excluding the traffic jam):
1. petrol to meet the 3/4 tank mark = $40SGD
2. toll at the singapore's custom = $1.50SGD
3. toll at the malaysian's custom = $2.60MYR
4. lunch at food court = $9.89MYR
5. hair cut = $30MYR
6. parking = $4MYR
7. petrol to fill the remaining 1/4 tank = $25MYR

the final bill comes to about $74SGD.

and oh, for $74SGD i bought mum a pair of red wings shoes on saturday.

another first for singapore

Pedestrians in Singapore were crowned the world's fastest movers, walking 30 percent faster than they did in the early 1990s.

The study was carried out with the help of the British Council, which promotes British cultural links with countries around the world.

Researchers in each city found a busy street with a wide, flat pavement, free from obstacles and sufficiently uncrowded to allow people to walk at their maximum speed. They then timed how long it took 35 people to walk 60 feet.

They only monitored adults on their own, and ignored anyone on a mobile phone conversation or struggling with shopping bags.

The times, in seconds, recorded in 32 cities across the world are listed below:

1) Singapore (Singapore): 10.55
2) Copenhagen (Denmark): 10.82
3) Madrid (Spain): 10.89
4) Guangzhou (China): 10.94
5) Dublin (Ireland): 11.03
6) Curitiba (Brazil): 11.13
7) Berlin (Germany): 11.16
8) New York (United States of America): 12.00
9) Utrecht (Netherlands): 12.04
10) Vienna (Austria): 12.06
11) Warsaw (Poland): 12.07
12) London (United Kingdom): 12.17
13) Zagreb (Croatia): 12.20
14) Prague (Czech Republic): 12.35
15) Wellington (New Zealand): 12.62
16) Paris (France): 12.65
17) Stockholm (Sweden): 12.75
18) Ljubljana (Slovenia): 12.76
19) Tokyo (Japan): 12.83
20) Ottawa (Canada): 13.72
21) Harare (Zimbabwe): 13.92
22) Sofia (Bulgaria): 13.96
23) Taipei (Taiwan): 14.00
24) Cairo (Egypt): 14.18
25) Sana'a (Yemen): 14.29
26) Bucharest (Romania): 14.36
27) Dubai (United Arab Emirates): 14.64
28) Damascus (Syria): 14.94
29) Amman (Jordan): 15.95
30) Bern (Switzerland): 17.37

Planet Green

Congratulations!
You've helped to reduce Evergreen's carbon fooprint.
Your final score is 9,525 out of a possible 10,000.

what i can do to be environmentally friendly:
#1 use 95 octane petrol
#2 use energy saving bulbs
#3 use recycle bags for shopping
#4 reduce the number of times i open the fridge
#5 turning the office air-con to 23 degrees
#6 remove chargers when they are not in use

i was reading the papers this morning and someone wrote to the forum asking for the anti-spitting campaign and courtesy campaign to be back. i then began to reminisce the past campaigns, including the current bring-your-own-bag. it seems that they haven't been met with much success, unlike japan's natio-wide effort in re-cycling and hong kong's 23 degrees movement.

sometimes i'm so tickled by the amount of resources pumped into the so-called world class education that singaporeans are receiving. laughter's the best medicine.

i'm back!
